We depart Cusco early in the morning and travel to the township of Calca (2900m) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You might get a chance to visit the principal local market selling a multitude of Andean crops including colourful corns, seeds and spices. The market is a fantastic place for authentic photographs or simply to spend a while soaking up the atmosphere of life – and everyday trading – totally untouched by tourism. Continuing on from Calca we drive to the highest point of the day passing Inca burial tombs, local farms and herds of wild llama en route. Stopping for a short-guided walk we visit the vast pre-Inca ruins of Ascasmarca (4000m) with stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains. From here we continue to the small community of Lares, where will visit the hot springs to enjoy the hot water while our cooks prepare a wonderful lunch.
After lunch we will start our hike towards the first campsite in Huacawasi (3600m/11811f). During 3 hours you will walk gradually uphill so that you get a good training for the next day when we will reach the highest point of the trek. The first night we will spend the night at the house of our horsemen who are joining us on the trip.
Day 02: Huacawasi – Sacsayllame - Miski Unu.
After a nutritious breakfast we will start hiking towards the highest point, the pass of Sacsayllame at 4400m. The hike will take about 4 hours and will be very steep uphill. Of course an emergency horse will accompany us so that everyone will certainly be able to reach the top. During this trek you will be able to enjoy enormous mountains, a patchwork of agricultural lands and breathtaking views. Be aware that we will reach great heights and the weather can be very cold. After reaching the highest point we will descend and pass a beautiful lagoon before having lunch next to the river. You will be able to recuperate while our cooks prepare a delicious lunch for you. Next we will descend further through a forest where you will be able to enjoy the “Qeuñas” (Polylepis), a typical tree from Peru. This walk will take about 1 hour before reaching our campsite at Miski Unu (3550m). A wonderful place in the middle of nowhere where you will receive hot thee and some snacks upon arrival before having dinner.
Day 03: Miski Unu – Queshuarchalloc - Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes.
Today will be another spectacular day when walking downhill through different forests. You will be able to enjoy the rich biodiversity and change of fauna and flora, during these 3 hours walk that will end in the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s. Watch out, when walking in the forest there are lots of mosquitos. We will enjoy our last lunch in Queshuarchalloc where we will say goodbye to the horsemen and cooks. After lunch we will take a local bus to get to Ollantaytambo. We will visit the beautiful town of Ollantaytambo before having dinner at a local restaurant. At 7pm we will take the train to reach our final destination of the day, the town of Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in a hostel.
Day 04:Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu – Cusco.
The last day of the Lares trek will start around 4:00 am. Thanks to this early start we will arrive to Machu Picchu, our final destination, very early, and have more time for exploration. First, we will walk through the high forest, climbing around 1500 stairs, till the control entrance, where we will arrive around 6:00 am. After crossing the gate our tour guide will lead you, for about 1,5 hours, through the spectacular ruins of Inca city. You will also have a lot of time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. After visiting Machu Picchu you will go by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where you will be picked up and transferred to Cusco city by bus. The journey ends in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Note that from Machu Picchu ruins to the train station in Aguas Calientes you will descend on your own, because some of you will want to stay longer in the ruins, some shorter, and some will climb additional mountains, so some will book the train back at a different hour.

Excelente tour
Esteban fue un excelente guia! Nos llevó desde Cusco hasta Ollantaytambo, haciendo un recorrido turístico bellisimo con múltiples paradas (el valle sagrado, Maras, Moray, salineras, entre otros). Es una muy buena opción para ir a tomar el tren a Machu Pichu y disfrutar del viaje.
Tiene un auto 0km, conduce prudentemente y el precio es muy razonable.

Great person, safe driving, lots of knowledge
Esteban has been one the best person we met in our trip! We were looking for a driver that could take us around in the Sacred Valley near Cusco, and we've been lucky enough to meet him. His driving style is relaxed and very safe. He is such a nice person, polite, flexible and very knowledgable, he has been a taxi driver and a guide. He also has great sense of humor. Willie, our driver, had a wealth of information about the history of the sites we visited around Cusco and in Valle Sagrado. He even suggested some great spots that were not on our plan and charted the best routes to evade the crowds that can overwhelm a visit. He was courteous, flexible and patient with our group of 12 women ( sometimes we differed on the best way to maximize our day but he listened to our requests). He was an amazing driver, you need the expertise to handle the curves and cliffs on some of these roads! The van was very comfortable and clean, plenty of room and big windows.
